This time, it was a simple 128GB USB stick. The user purchased it from the well-known Aliexpress. They used it to store important documents as an archive. One day, when one of those documents was needed, it wouldn’t open, so the user turned to us. After creating a data image, we examined the USB stick and discovered it was fake. A 64GB USB stick had its firmware modified to appear as 128GB. As a result, half of the data was simply overwritten.
Despite everything, we were able to recover and deliver about 30% of the data to the user.
